Mardi Gras Cupcakes

It’s that time of year where green starts to make its presence into your kitchen as St. Patrick’s Day and Mardi Gras approach . Hard to believe March has arrived.

Being a southern girl, Mardi Gras was always a big event everyone talked about and looked forward to. What is hard to believe is that I never made it to this day to New Orleans! Living three states over where Georgia is always on my mind, just never have made the trip to The Big Easy. Crazy huh?

I do have some fun memories though. Growing up our neighbors were originally from Lousiana so every year they would go and bring back all those awesome colored beads and paraphernalia. Always fun!

Just love the colors of this celebration. Maybe the purple is my favorite and how can I forget about the classic king cake. Just love that! I’m starting to see bakeries put this trademark pastry out every year in my area. Thinking back, I think I only got the “baby” once in my slice. Maybe this year will be my year!

Create Your Own Celebration

You can have your own Mardi Gras tribute right in your own home with these fun cupcakes.

I start with one of my simple vanilla cupcake recipes and color the batter three ways. Of course, using the traditional colors of the celebration of gold, green, and purple. Then drop a little of each color into the cupcake liner for a festive tri-color effect when baked.

Icing-The Best Part

Can’t forget about the icing now. It equally has to stand up to the vibrant colors of the cupcake. Coloring it three ways and doing a few decorative touches using a large plain tip.

You can use your favorite buttercream recipe.

Decorations-Purple,Green, Gold

Sprinkles of course, there are definitely a must here! I go for the darker green on these instead of the lighter.
